Brochure Cover Development

The brochure is coming together nicely.

I had a wee problem when I was trying to add copyright text to some of the images, but discovered this was because I had text wrap on them so this stopped me from adding text onto them. I knew there was a way to do this so thank goodness for tutorials on Youtube I got a round this by not using text wrap on the images and drawing my own text boxes using the pen tool. This way the main text can wrap around the image and then allow me to add text on top of images.

Started to develop the front cover and soon found out that my initial idea of a wolfs face within a claw print was not a strong enough idea and just didn’t work well. So tried a few othe thing and one thing led to another and I have a cover which I feel works. I will however step back from this for a while and look at it again with fresh eyes to see if there is anything that could be added or changed.

Brochure Development

I have been working on putting my brochure for the Highland Wildlife Park together. Some pages are pretty much near completed while some I’ve hardly touched. The cover is in the early stages of development but the whole brochure is starting to come together. I am using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign to create the brochure. Even though George Cox and Trevor Russell have supplied me with photographs that I could use for this project there were still some animals, birds and fish I needed to find. I had some photographs of my own that I have used and the few that were still needed which I aquired from Flickr and found photographs under the Creative Commons license.

I also created a muddy boot print to walk across the bottom of the pages

Brochure Layouts

Rough sketches of the brochure layout……

Concept 1 I was wanting to make this bright and fun, at first I thought about primary colours but think this would make it to cheap and brash looking, so the colours would be toned down slightly. There would be a colour coded bar along the top of the pages and a cartoon style illustration of grass along the bottom of the pages, which would change to blue waves for the fish and sea/waterlife.  In this concept I would be using the copy that I have been supplied from the client and adding further info about all the animal, birds and fish. The inside back cover would be used for advertising as this space could be sold to local business’s and would help with the cost of printing the brochure.

Concept 2 is a Highland Safari so the colour palette that I’m thinking about reflects the colours of the highlands, greens in the trees and foliage, purple heather, blues in the loch and river etc. I’m also thinking of keeping the printing cost down for the client by having as few pages as possible in the brochure. So I have laid this out as if I’m walking around park following the clients copy. I will only be using the copy supplied by the client in this brochure, unless after further development there is space for a few interesting facts about the animals, birds and fish. I will put a small white circle in each image so if the visitors see that animal, bird or fish they can tick it off. The images will all be in circles, these could have a colour coded border around them or if this looks too messy I will just colour code the corners of the page. The inside cover again will be sold as advertising space to local business’s to help cover the cost of printing. The sketches look a little messy with lots of circles but I have made a quick draft in InDesign and it looks a lot tidier, still need work though, so this is the concept I will continue to develop.

I need to source…..

… copyright free images of all the animals, birds and fish for this project. Unless I can find a photographer who is willing to share their images, of course credit would be given to the photographer on each of his/her images that I include in the brochure for this project.
